The Spanish city of Valencia will host a new Formula One Monaco Grand Prix style ‘street race’ from 2008.

A seven-year deal between F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and the Spanish harbour city allows the new European Grand Prix as it will be known to be Spains second F1 race along with Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.

However there is some political wrangling and somewhat of an uproar as the staging of the race is dependent upon president Francisco Camps of the Valencian government winning next month’s local elections.

The Grand Prix event will take place later in the season along a specially designed Monaco Grand Prix style harbour side street circuit of approximately 2.5 miles in length.

Such a circuit obviously brings comparisons to the world-famous Monaco Grand Prix, which is also staged along city streets and attracts a huge global audience for the glitz and glamour associated with it.
