Michael Schumacher has conceded to being “a pretty happy man” as he enjoys life away from Formula One.

The seven-time world champion retired last year after 16 seasons in the sport, since when he has become an ‘advisor’ with Ferrari.

However, while the recent Bahrain Grand Prix was taking place, the 38-year-old was photographed on holiday in Miami with his family – wife Corinna and two children – sunning himself by the pool and sporting a large cigar.

Speaking at an event in Poznan, Poland, organised by Shell to mark the 60th anniversary of the company’s partnership with Ferrari, Schumacher said: “I’m not missing driving at the moment.

“I’m a pretty happy man. I live a good life. I have had good times in the past, but I certainly have better times now. That’s very clear.

“I spend more time at home now. I can draw my schedule in a way that at least in the holiday times I can be at home and spend the vacation with the kids. That is very nice for us.

“But I’m still very close to the racing, and involved with almost everything that’s happening.”

However, after such a glorious career, Schumacher admits watching the races on television was an unusual experience.

“It’s funny, but it’s normal,” added Schumacher.

“Watching is interesting, seeing it from a different side. But I’m not looking at it to learn something, it’s not my ambition.

“I’m looking at it just to enjoy it with my family and my friends together, and enjoy the event as you do.”
